Aikido
Self-Defence, Fitness and Harmony
Aikido is a modern, non-violent Japanese martial art that was developed in the early 20th century by the late master Morihei Ueshiba, also known as O Sensei. The word “Aikido” translates as “the way of harmony” or “the way of Peace.” The martial art seeks to unite body, mind, and spirit with the universal force of nature.
With the background of Japanese Jujutsu, sword, and spear techniques, O Sensei spent the latter half of his life developing Aikido as a means of refining and uplifting the human spirit. The martial arts use twisting and throwing techniques and aim to turn attackers’ strength and momentum against themselves. The main focus of martial arts is to achieve mental peace and control to reach a deeper understanding of ourselves and others.
